Jimmy Choo Press Preview

I attended the Jimmy Choo AW09 collection preview last week, as it was held in one of the Brown Thomas boardrooms on the Marketing floor where I'm currently doing work experience.

Inspired by 80's punk and the iconic women of that era (think Debbie Harry and Patti Smith), the collection was sharp and streamlined, with the right amount of edge. I walked away wanting everything.

There were two new bags introduced for AW09; the Blythe (pictured above) and the Odette. Sleek with classic elements, I adore the Blythe and it's subtle punked up details.

Of course no Jimmy Choo collection is complete without the standard sex on stilts; the hyper pink and leopard print Gesture stiletto pictured above was definitely a stand out piece.

I'm also totally lusting over the ultimate biker boot. Soft, perfectly distressed leather and lined in rabbit fur, the Yule flat has become a fixture on my most coveted wishlist.

I love the new casino themed Dolce & Gabbana AW09 ad campaign, featuring Maria Carla Boscono, Heidi Mount and Edita Vilkeviciute.

But I love the eyewear featured in it even more. These are the best sunglasses I have seen in an age; I just love the shape and size, they are so sleek.

Crazy For Zooey

My last post was a bit rant-y and I couldn't go to bed on such an agro note! So I thought posting this brilliant pic of one of my all time favorite people in the world, Zooey Deschanel, was completely and utterly necessary.

On a much less random note, I am currently undertaking a two week work experience in the Brown Thomas Marketing & Communications department.

BT2 Brand Manager Annelie and Brown Thomas In House Press Co-Ordinator Aoife are showing me the ropes and my first day today was so much fun.

After my mini internship, it's off to start work in the new American Apparel, which is finally opening in Dublin on the 17th July. So excited!

Not So Cheap And Not So Chic

Rachel Zoe recently published her top 34 must-haves in Entertainment Weekly. We all know what to expect from the infamous Ms Zoe, but for some reason I was still a little taken off guard.

I guess I just thought that Rachel would have considered the current state of the global economy before announcing that the items she can't possibly live without don't venture far from the price bracket of Louis Vuitton, Missoni and Chanel.

Don't get me wrong, I know Rachel Zoe commands a high enough salary in her role as a 'celebrity stylist' to allow her to afford such luxury goods and that when one is considered part of the 'fashion elite' there are certain perks. But I guess I just still found it a little... vulgar.

I definitely stand guilty of hypocrisy. I am the one after all who 'currently covets' hundred dollar Chanel booties and thousand dollar leather jackets. But in a way, that's just part and parcel of the fantastic illusions and enthralling fantasies that make up my world of fashion.

A Dress A Day

The Uniform Project is a really exciting and inspiring concept conceived by Sheena Matheikin, where she has pledged to wear one dress, every day, for one year, in the hope of promoting sustainable fashion.

There are seven identical black dresses, which she reinvents every day, through the use of layering and accessories. The fantastic outfit shown below is one such example, in which she attended a wedding.

All proceeds from The Uniform Project go to the Akanksha Foundation, a charity whose main aim is to revolutionize the education system in India. Not only is this venture for a good cause, it really hits home on how we can make the most of our wardrobes, even if our resources are limited.

The Return Of Philo

Pheobe Philo's debut Resort 2010 collection for Celine blew me away! It was flawless and fantastic and proved to the fashion world how much she was truly missed.

As much as I love the elaborate and embellished designs by Balmain, Lanvin and Nina Ricci, this is really the style that I admire the most. Streamlined and structured, with an eclectic flourish.

It’s What’s Inside That Counts

Ben & Jerry’s have commissioned a series of limited edition organic cotton bags from some of Ireland’s finest artists to celebrate the launch of their new flavour, Fairtrade Chocolate Macadamia.

Work by Chris Judge, Sarah McCall and Rich Gilligan will be embellishing the eco-friendly accessories. All three designs are super cute!

They’re all available for FREE from the Ben & Jerry’s Facebook. You guys know what to do...

Chanel For Tea

If I was lucky enough to have a Chanel 2.55 in my possession, I would probably lick it with joy too. Actually... I definitely wouldn't. That's kinda gross and plus, I would be too scared to even take it out of it's box.

Alexa Chung totally gets away with it though. It looks like she would make a fabulous porn star! Maybe she can dabble in it if the TV presenting jobs run dry or she suddenly stops being so incredibly chic... Extremely doubtful.

StyleCaster

I've recently come across an exciting new website that might just become more of a daily distraction than my long standing Facebook fixation.

StyleCaster is an exciting new platform that combines editorial and styling content, shopping and interactive community, allowing for a personalized online fashion orientated experience.

StyleCaster is still an invite only private service, but click here to become a VIP member before the website opens to the public.

This is how I would like to look when I'm older. Hopefully working in a powerful job and getting my hair and make-up done every day, Anna Wintour style.

Business Cards

I just ordered 250 free business cards from Vista Print. You do have to pay for postage, but really it's such a good deal.

I'm starting a two week work experience in the BT2 Marketing and PR department on Monday, so it will be really nice to have something cute to give to new people I meet there.

You can choose from approximately 40 customizable templates and even though they're mostly quite dull, I'm really happy with the end product; simple yet striking. So excited to get them in the post!

Luxury Wellies

My Mom and I were flicking through The Sunday Times last weekend and she was highly amused to read about the "dozens of fashionistas scrambling to get a place on the waiting list" for these limited edition mock-croc Hunter wellington boots by Jimmy Choo.

I love Jimmy Choo just as much as the next fashion blogger and have always wanted to invest in a pair of Hunters for the soggy festival summer season... but something just doesn't bode well with the above concoction.

Apparently, my fellow Irish trendsetters tend to disagree and just can't wait to get their hands on a pair.

I'm currently obsessing over the Chanel booties that have been spotted daintily adorning the feet of both Jane from Sea of Shoes (top picture) and Alexa Chung at the Glamour Women Of The Year Awards 2009 (bottom picture).

Even though they are almost sickly sweet, there is something sharp and gothic about them. They make me think of a gothic Lolita... and that's never a bad thing.

Little Old Dublin

Apparently the new American Apparel opening in Dublin in July is set to be the biggest branch of AA in the world. Yay!

Very exciting indeed! Now if they would only hurry up and open... my wish list is getting a little bit too long.

Behind The Times

I have been completely off the radar recently and unfortunately have missed out on some fab things that have been going on around Dublin.

Never the less, there are a couple of very exciting events to report and even though I'm a bit behind the times, it's better late than never!

Brown Thomas and BT2 have really been pulling out all the stops lately. Despite the most turbulent times to hit our good old Irish economy in quite a while, I've never been as impressed with Dublin's most fashion forward emporiums, as I am now.

I was über excited when I heard that Illamasqua opened a concession in BT2 on Grafton Street. It is one of my new favorite make-up brands and never ceases to awe and amaze.

Their collections and products are truly pioneering, as the above image of this season's Sirens range conveys. They not only create flawless night time make-up looks, they truly create works of art.

Barbie celebrated her 50th birthday this year and BT2 dedicated an amazing window installation to the iconic doll, in order to mark the occasion in style.

BT2 managed to acquire the original Barbie mannequins made by Rootsein, which revolved in the store windows during the celebrations.

These awe inspiring life-size and life-like Barbie dolls are so in demand and nearly impossible to obtain, that the only other places they have been unveiled were at the Mattel Barbie Party in Collette in Paris and at the Dover Street Market party in New York.

Other in store activities included a huge party in the Grafton Street store, featuring a pink carpet, delicious pink cupcakes, sweet and sticky candy floss, French macaroons from Ladurée, pink lemonade from Lorina and snipes of pink Jolie.

Barbie certainly would have approved!

When I first saw this picture, I was instantly reminded of these. But apparently they're Chanel from 2001.

Whatever they are, I'm lusting badly; my ideal vision of a black boot. The olive green clutch is pretty hot too.

Yummy Ladurée

I was so excited to see that Ladurée opened a delightful concession on the ground floor of Brown Thomas recently. I nearly died, they are definitely the yummiest treats in the world.

I've narrowed down my favorite flavors to Salted Caramel, Vanilla and Rose. All crispy on the outside and fluffy or chewy in the middle... I'm drooling a little on my keyboard.
